Safety first: Polytech has practiced the behavior in emergency situations
On March 1, large-scale trainings and an exhibition devoted to the role of information technologies in emergency situations were held at Satbayev University as part of World Civil Defense Day celebration. Along with University, Headquarters of Civil Defense, Fire Safety and Labor Protection, as well as Almaty’s Emergency Situations Department took part in the trainings.
Fire and rescue equipment exhibition was held in front of University’s Main Academic Building. The event began with practical exercises for the entire university to evacuate students and staff from the building to a safe place in case of fire.
The exhibition was attended by dog handlers, fire motorcycles, mobile rapid response service, first aid cars, unmanned aerial vehicle with four propellers, that is quadrocopters and other means of rescue, Red Crescent Society distributed memos and demonstrated training complexes. Seismology Institute and 2NIK company held an in-depth lecture on strong earthquakes.
The highlight of the exhibition was a mobile earthquake simulator, which gave students the opportunity to experience how a building reacts to an earthquake with high scores. In addition, the participants had the opportunity to climb on a fire crane to a height of 25 m and feel what rescuers feel when extinguishing fires.
In addition to experience, students acquired knowledge related to safety in case of natural and man-made nature hazardous situations, learned about 10 steps in an earthquake, how to assemble an alarm suitcase, as well as the principles of “Darmen” mobile application. In the future, students and staff will receive information on the risks during emergencies in "Integrated Security" classroom that was opened this day at University.
Satbayev University is continuing to rely on the safety of its students and staff, and is aware of the importance of a nationwide security system. To support the emergency employees, University has allocated five grants for free training to participants of the rescue operation and liquidation of earthquake consequences in Turkey.
The emergency trainings were not just an exciting action, but were also saturated with important knowledge and skills that can save lives in hazardous situations. It was an invaluable experience for all participants!
