Satbayev University and Korean Institute of Aviation and Safety Technologies are building the bridge to the future, discussing the creation of Drone Center in Kazakhstan

Today, unmanned aerial vehicles are becoming a part of everyday life. To unlock their potential, representatives of Satbayev University and Korean Institute of Aviation and Safety Technologies (KIAST) met and discussed the possibility of creating Korean-Kazakh Drone Center.

Korean delegation was headed by Jang Bon Kang, Director of KIAST Advanced Aviation Research Division. They were met by University’s Rector Meiram Begentayev, Vice-rector for Academic Affairs Raissa Uskenbayeva, specialists in military affairs, drones and geo-informatics. Adlet Daulenbayev, first deputy General Director of BET SCY, joined the meeting.

After the framework agreements, have moved on to practical elaboration of further steps to organize the center. At the meeting, Meiram Begentayev stressed that the traditions of the Korean and Kazakh people are very similar. Respect for elders, hospitality and passion for engineering achievements create the basis for effective cooperation.

KIAST is the South Korean government research institute under Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, which is responsible for Korean Government's security initiatives and policies related to unmanned aerial vehicles, and already has eleven trial sites testing the drones in Korea.

The new center, which is planned to be created on the basis of Satbayev University, will be created owing to Korean and Kazakh sides’ efforts, the process will include not only two institutes, but also many educational institutions in both countries, each of which will bring its unique competencies in the field of engineering, flight science, and academic work to the project.

It is expected that Center will become an important educational and research platform in Central Asia and will contribute to evolving the training programs for specialists in unmanned aerial vehicles field, as well as promote the implementation of joint research projects, the transfer of advanced technologies and the development of competencies in unmanned technologies and aviation security sphere.
