Satbayev University Discusses How Financial Literacy Strengthens Economic Resilience

The Institute of Project Management of Satbayev University hosted an international forum on financial literacy, which brought together students, faculty members, representatives of Kazakhstan’s government bodies and foreign experts, all of whom highly appreciated the level of the event.

At the forum, Dr. Ramona Blanes, an international expert and leading lecturer in business administration at the University of Glasgow (United Kingdom), delivered a speech and praised the forum highly. Dr. Blanes noted that the financial competencies discussed at the event are fully in line with global approaches and are critically important for the sustainable development of Kazakhstan. In her view, the combination of academic training, real-life case studies and open dialogue with students creates a strong foundation for fostering responsible financial behaviour.

Azamat Kaliyev, Lieutenant Colonel and representative of the Department of Economic Investigations for the city of Almaty, emphasized the practical value of the event, noting that informed young people are far less likely to become victims of fraud, and that prevention through education is one of the most effective tools for building financial security.

Professor Douglas K. Hartman from Michigan State University (USA), in his comments, stressed the importance of paying attention to the impact of the digital environment and artificial intelligence on citizens’ financial decisions. He pointed out that the format of the forum at Satbayev University, where financial literacy is examined in close connection with digital security, corresponds to best international practices and can serve as a model for future joint educational and research projects.

Akim Gadilbek, Chief Expert of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market, placed special emphasis on the importance of a stable partnership between the regulator and the university, stressing that such events not only help to raise public awareness, but also contribute to forming a culture of preventing financial offences.

The forum was moderated by the Deputy Director of the Institute and Associate Professor, Nazym Zhunusbekova. In her speech, she underlined that such forums bring the discussion on financial security to the international level, and that the students who took part in the forum are ready not only to absorb information, but also to actively engage in professional dialogue:

“The students demonstrated a high level of awareness: they asked precise, substantive questions concerning both personal finance and digital security. This indicates the emergence of a generation capable of making well-balanced financial decisions and critically assessing any high-risk proposals.”

This is not the first forum on financial security held within the walls of Satbayev University. Thanks to the initiatives of Nazym Zhunusbekova, the university consistently provides a platform for dialogue on finance for students and researchers. This contribution was recognized by the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market, which, within the framework of the forum, presented Nazym Zhunusbekova with a letter of gratitude in recognition of her contribution to improving financial literacy and strengthening the financial security of citizens.
