Satbayev University has celebrated anniversaries of Polytech legends in working order
On November 25, Polytech hosted an international scientific and technical conference dedicated to 110th anniversary of the birth of Academician O.A. Baikonurov, 100th anniversary of Academician Zh.S. Sydykov and 90th anniversary of the start of training of mining engineers-hydrogeologists in Kazakhstan.
Conference brought together Omirkhan Baikonurov’s students, well-known scientists in mining and hydrogeology sphere, universities’ representatives, enterprises of mining- metallurgical complex and scientific-technical organizations of the country, including Professor of Istanbul Technical University and Colorado Mining School Atak Bassetin and President-Rector of Zhezkazgan University named after O.A. Baikonurov, Doctor of technical sciences, academician Abdilmalik Takishov.
Conference featured an exhibition of publications by Academician Omirkhan Baikonurov, prepared by his daughter, Doctor of technical sciences Aliya Baikonurova, who continues her father’s work, the founder of the mining scientific school in Kazakhstan, an outstanding scientist-encyclopedist and organizer of production, whose fundamental works have been widely recognized by the world scientific community.
At the same time, a well-known scientist in hydrogeology field Zhurmbek Sydykov also worked with Amirkhan Baikonurov. A graduate of Polytech, the author of 700 scientific, research and production works, Zhurmbek Sydykov devoted his life to the study of groundwater in Central, Western, Southern and South-Eastern Kazakhstan, supervised the development of hydrogeological maps and provision of Kazakhstan with high-quality drinking water.
Rector of Satbayev University Meiram Begentayev, Deputy Chairman of Geology Committee at Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Ministry of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kaiyrkhan Tutkyshbayev, who set the tone for the entire conference, opened the conference with welcoming speech. He stressed the importance of groundwater protection and spoke on the work being carried out in the field of hydraulic use in Kazakhstan:
"I’ m inviting everyone who has ideas in this area to send them to Public Council at Ecology and Geology Ministry, all suggestions and comments will be taken into account," the deputy chairman said.
Ideas and innovation proposals in areas important to our country are what Satbayev University is famous for. Therefore, for the university staff, the conference was an opportunity not only to remember the merits of wonderful people, but also to actively begin solving problems in hydrogeology field and mining-metallurgical sphere. University scientists discussed innovative projects and proposals for technology transfer of scientists and specialists of the republic for diversification and increasing the competitiveness of mining-metallurgical complex of Kazakhstan.
The round table dedicated to the anniversary of Omirkhan Baikonurov, held within the framework of the conference, summed up the work results of the long-standing Satbayev University, which for decades has been combining science and forestry, strengthening the link between the engineering community and production enterprises of mining and metallurgical industry of the republic. Omirkhan Baikonurov, as one of the first rectors of Polytech, is among the founders of the formation, development and professional growth of the technical elite of Kazakhstan, and Satbayev University continues his work.
