Satbayev University has risen by 100 points in the world ranking of universities QS WUR
Today, on June 9, 2022, the annual QS World University Rankings were published, in which Satbayev University took 405th place, the university has improved its position by 100 points at once over the year.
Satbayev University has confirmed the status of the leading technical university in the country and entered the top 29% of universities in the world. Now Satbayev University is adjacent in the world ranking with one of the oldest universities in Europe, Pisa University, whose history is traced back to XI century, with American research University Colorado State University, with Chinese Center for Research and Innovation South China University of Technology. Alongside, with one of the most reputable Chinese universities - National State Research University Sichuan University and with State British Research University Royal Holloway University of London, a part of London University. This raises the prestige of Kazakhstan’s first technical university in the world community.
Satbayev University also retains its position in QS World University Rankings By Subject 2022 in Petroleum Engineering subject area in Engineering and Technology category for the second year in a row, ranking 101-150 in the world ranking.
QS World University Rankings are based on such indicators as academic reputation (40%), reputation among employers (10%), the share of foreign teachers and students (5% each), the ratio of students and teachers’ number (20%) and the amount of citations per scientific and pedagogical laborer (20%). Reputation indicators are based on questionnaire surveys’ results of academic experts and employers.
The factors that made the greatest contribution to the growth of Satbayev University’s position were the indicators of academic reputation and reputation among employers, where the advancement of positions was 83 and 96 points, respectively, as well as changes in the ratio of students and teachers’ amount.
"We have established and are strengthening effective cooperation with employers and the scientific community both in our republic and in the world, reduced non-priority administrative costs, while maintaining our high standards of academic integrity. The result confirms that we have chosen the right path and our strategic goal – to enter TOP 200 of QS WUR rating - is quite achievable for our team," said Meiram Begentayev, Rector of Satbayev University.
Academic and administrative staff’s continuous work at University is aimed at maintaining the trend of growth and overcoming another 200 points in the next three years with the growing competition. Every year the number of participants in the rating increases, their level and the average number of points in the rating is growing, the requirements for universities are growing. 900 candidate universities participated in QS-2016, while in QS-2023, there were almost 2500 of them, and as a result, 1422 universities from 100 countries of the world entered the rating. 16 universities from Kazakhstan took part in the international ranking of universities QS WUR 2023.
QS World University Rankings is one of the three most objective and influential university rankings in the world, along with Times Higher Education World University Rankings and Academic Ranking of World Universities. Its author is the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The first place in QS WUR 2023 ranking is traditionally occupied by MIT (Massachusetts, USA).
