Satbayev University is expanding the partnership with global universities

Satbayev University’s Rector Meiram Begentayev: Scientists of Kazakhstan are ready to contribute to improving the well-being of Kazakhstan’s residents

I am certain that Kazakhstani scientists can make a significant contribution to solving the global problems, which will ensure a sustainable future for Kazakhstan and the whole world. Therefore, today we are going through a difficult period of transformation and adaptation: we are updating our scientific infrastructure, creating conditions for forming the multinational teams of scientists and researchers on the basis of University, who will work to solve problems both locally and globally. At the same time, our scientists actively cooperate with industry leaders, develop and offer them a scientifically based solution to production problems and a proposal to increase productivity. In his Message to People of Kazakhstan, State’s Head Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted the importance of joint work of Kazakhstani scientists with the real sector of the economy in order to jointly confront the challenges of globalization, synchronize our academic policy and scientific research with the scientific and technological priorities of the country.

To do this, on behalf of State’s Head, we are creating a research hub for new technologies in engineering education and science on the basis of Satbayev University. It will allow combining the efforts of business, science and the state to implement priority areas of modernization and technological development of the economy.

Kazakhstan's scientists are ready to contribute to achieving the main goal - improving the well-being of Kazakhstani people. To do this, all our scientific projects, our every step and decision must be based on the benefits they will bring to the state. We simply need to make full use of our advantages and access to the infrastructure of developed countries and become part of the global scientific movement, which will be crucial for the successful evolvement of domestic science, to meet the pressing problems of our economy and improve the well-being of the entire Kazakh society.

Internationalization and international cooperation are the only true way to develop the system of higher education and science in Kazakhstan. With the support of Science and Higher Education Ministry, we are working to form a unified higher education space in Central Asian region: we are opening the branches of leading foreign universities at Satbayev University and send our scientists to research centers around the world, participate in various student exchange programs and accredit our degreel programs with reputable rating agencies around the world.

We are expanding the range of international partners, including four universities ranked in the top 100 in the QS ranking: City University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong, China), Pennsylvania State University (USA), Sungkyunkwan University (South Korea), and Hof University of Applied Sciences (Germany). Today, 24 of our students and staff are studying or undergoing a scientific internship in the mentioned universities. The opening of branches of these universities in Almaty will not only raise the quality of training to a new level, but also strengthen international cooperation in the research field.

We have launched a two-degree education program in “Locomotives” and “Logistics” directions with Xi'an Railway Vocational Technical Institute (PRC), where 10 of our students are currently there, respectively, 10 students from the given university study with us. This will help Kazakhstan become a reliable logistics hub within the framework of “One Zone, One Path” global initiative. In total, University cooperates with 187 foreign universities and scientific institutes.

Owing to its strategic approach to science and international cooperation growth, Satbayev University is becoming a center of attraction for talented students, scientists and researchers from all over the world. University not only cordially develops scientific activities, but also makes a significant contribution to solving global problems, ensuring a sustainable future for Kazakhstan and the whole world.

For instance, recently in Korea, our Metallurgy and Enrichment Institute signed an agreement with Korean Institute of Industrial Technology to establish a scientific center for high-temperature/reactive rare metals and technology of high-quality industrial products. Our partners have been investing more than 10 million US dollars and their own latest technologies in the project for 5 years, which will increase the depth of processing the precious metal ores and increase the production of high-tech products.

Advancing the international collaboration and internationalization of higher education and science are the priorities of Satbayev University, which contribute to integrating the university into the global scientific and educational space. University continues to develop strategic partnerships, enhance academic mobility, expand international research projects, and attract talented students and faculty from around the world. These initiatives help to create a productive international scientific and educational environment at Satbayev University and make us an important participant in global educational and scientific processes.
