Satbayev University is planning to work together within the framework of Global Compact with UN
On April 3, Rector of University Meiram Begentayev and Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation Alibek Shokparov met with representatives of UN Global Compact Salome Zurabishvili and Dinara Seidjaparova at Satbayev University. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in academic and scientific areas and the future opening of a multi-country office for implementing the sustainable development goal in Kazakhstan.
— We are open for any kind of cooperation, Meiram Begentayev said at the meeting. — Academic freedom, creative freedom, sustainable development — all this is crucial for us.
UN Global Compact is the world's largest initiative in the field of corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. Ensuring the successful development of corporations and communities is the main goal of this agreement, aimed at and uniting more than 16,000 companies from 161 countries of the world. The participating companies work according to the standards of the agreement within the framework of ten universal principles that are designed to ensure human rights, fair work, environmental protection and the fight against corruption.
One of the significant social goals under the agreement is to ensure access to quality education for the whole society. An important part of this program is to increase career opportunities for women in innovation and STEM fields, as well as providing expert support in training and raising awareness of young people and young professionals in Earth and environmental sciences sphere. The joint work of UN and Satbayev University will make a tangible contribution to the economic and digital development of Kazakhstan and the whole of Central Asia.
