Satbayev University students study their specialty at Baikonur spaceport
Students of “Electronics, Telecommunications and Space Technologies” department of "Space Engineering and Technology" degree program at Satbayev University successfully completed an educational internship at one of the largest spaceports in the world - Baikonur. This practice was an important step in their professional development and provided a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the real conditions of the space industry.
Head of the program was Beibarys Sekenov, a graduate student at Satbayev University, an excellent student in "Space Engineering and Technology" program, actively involved in the scientific work of the university and already has scientific articles in the Scopus database. He is a member of the research group working on “Research of fiber-optic sensors for concrete products” project and one of the main organizers of the annual international competitions Kazsmartspace.
As part of the training practice, students of various technical and engineering specialties had the opportunity to study in depth the processes of preparing and launching the spacecraft. The practice included theoretical classes, excursions to the main facilities of the cosmodrome, as well as direct participation in preparation for launching the carrier rocket.
Beibarys Sekerov noted:
- Practice at Baikonur cosmodrome provides our students with invaluable experience and knowledge that cannot be obtained in university classrooms. We are proud that our students have the opportunity to participate in such large-scale projects.
During the internship, students took part in the rare event - on May 30, the carrier rocket was launched from the launch complex of 31st site of Baikonur cosmodrome, which put into orbit a spacecraft designed to observe the Earth's surface in the visible and near infrared ranges.
The launch vehicle featured images dedicated to 90th anniversary of the birth of Alexei Leonov, the first man to make a spacewalk, 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg State University and 65th anniversary of the movement of Russian student detachments.
This is the eighth launch of the Russian launch vehicle in 2024, including the fourth from Baikonur cosmodrome and an excellent experience for students who noted the high level of organization of the practice and expressed gratitude for the opportunity. One of the practice participants, first-year student Akmaral Zhanuzak, shared her impressions:
- It was an incredible opportunity to see up close the process of preparing for the spacecraft launch. We learned a lot of new things and were able to put our knowledge into practice. This experience inspired me to further develop in space technology sphere.
Satbayev University has expressed its gratitude to Baikonur cosmodrome management and all those who participated in organizing the given practice for their cooperation and support. University is planning to continue and expand the program of educational practices, providing the students with even more opportunities for professional growth and development.
