Stephen Barnes, Dean of International Programs at Penn State University, visited Satbayev University

Stephen Barnes, Dean of International Programs at Penn State University, visited Polytech on October 23 to discuss the prospects for a strategic partnership between Satbayev University and Pennsylvania State University in education and science sphere.

The meeting was attended by the head of “Mamandygym-Bolashagym” project of   RK Science and Higher Education Ministry Samgat Yermekbayev, Rector of  University Meiram Begentayev, Vice-Rector for Science and Corporate Development Yerzhan Kuldeyev, Director of Automation and Information Technologies Institute Raissa Uskenbayeva, Director of Geology and Oil-Gas Business Institute named after K. Turyssov Askar Syzdykov, Director of Mining and Metallurgical Institute Kanai Rysbekov, Head of Office of Commercialization and International Cooperation Aliya Akatayeva and departments’ heads – Alma Bekbotayeva, Gulzhakhan Yelikbayeva, Kenes Kudaibergenov, Ryskhan Satybaldiyeva, as well as professors Talgat Yensepbayev and Bagila Baytimbetova.

The meeting was held in the warm and friendly atmosphere. Stephen Barnes made a welcoming speech and shared plans for cooperation with Kazakh universities.

- I have visited 50 countries of the world and I consider 5 of them my home, — Mr. Barnes said in his speech. - These are the USA, Norway, India, Colombia and Kazakhstan. India and Kazakhstan are a priority for us, and in your country our focus is on Satbayev University.

Pennsylvania State University is a long-time partner of Polytech. It is one of the largest and most reputable research universities in the USA, ranking 83rd in QS ranking. Samgat Yermekbayev made an inspiring speech, stressing that Penn State provides great opportunities and is open to cooperation with Kazakhstani universities.

At the end of the meeting, Meiram Begentayev introduced University staff and gave the floor to Institutes’ directors and departments’ heads. The parties agreed to expand the strategic partnership between Satbayev University and Penn State in the areas of engineering, cyber security, material sciences and mining. The next step in the framework of the partnership between Satbayev University and Penn State will be the organization of an internship of Kazakhstani teachers in America, as well as the launch of two-degree educational programs. In the future, collaboration will be expanded.
