The tower from liquids was built by schoolchildren at "Chem Talent: Chemistry Olympiad" contest at Satbayev University
Connection of theory and practice in the chemistry field for schoolchildren in grades 7-9 was opened by Satbayev University and El Umiti Corporate Fund, which organized a chemistry competition for participants of the republican Olympiad "EL UMITI Talent" on University’s campus. 38 talented students of grades 7-9 from Almaty, who participated in the republican Olympiad "El Umiti Talent" in the field of chemistry, accepted the challenge to test their knowledge in practice.
Pupils are divided into pairs based on a draw and begin their assignments. Each test consists of a practical experiment in the field of chemistry, which must be described in a written exercise and answer the questions asked. For example, one of the tasks is to determine the density of liquids and use them to build a tower of immiscible layers. This is a real test of knowledge and intelligence.
The jury’s chairperson, University’s professor, doctor of chemical sciences Tynyshtyk Iskakova stressed that the competition would help future chemical scientists take the first step in the profession and receive an award for their knowledge:
- This is a real holiday for all chemists, - she said, - Today, the best of the best came here, and these young researchers must show their knowledge, fight stress, and we hope that this will help them prove themselves in the future and meet the expectations of their teachers.
"Chem Talent: chemistry" contest is being held for the second time. Last year it was organized for schoolchildren from Astana, next year it will spread to other regions of Kazakhstan. To support young chemists, Nurgeldy Sanabai, a teacher, multiple winner of Chemistry Olympiads, 2-time winner of International Mendeleyev Olympiad, author of the book "Chemistry in Simple Language", took part in the competition.
All participants received diplomas and scientific games, and the winners got valuable prizes, including mobile phones and smart headphones:
1st place. Zhanibek Kinebayev (9th grade, NIS CBS Almaty), Liora Vissingiriyeva (8th grade, PhysTech)
2nd place: Dina Beissenova (9th grade, Specialized school named after Alfarabi), Samira Supiyeva 7th grade, NIS CBS Almaty")
3rd place: Ayleen Nazarova (7th grade, NIS CBS Almaty), Anna Shishkina (7th grade, NIS CBS Almaty)
Contest, organized by Chemical Processes and Industrial Ecology Department at Mining and Metallurgical Institute, El Umiti Corporate Fund, “Dar of Almaty” Center and “Genomics” Bio-academy, has a great future ahead - we hope that it will become an important stage in popularizing the chemistry and supporting the scientific potential of our country’s gifted youth.
