Will we be able to reach Mars faster than Elon Musk? - Satbayev University discussed the future of the oil and gas industry
An unusual visiting meeting of Educational and Methodological Association in the engineering education sphere of Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held at Satbayev University. International experts, representatives of RK MSHE, teachers and scientists from 46 Kazakhstani universities, representatives of Kazatomprom, Samruk Kazyna, KMG and KAES companies gathered to discuss education and the future in the oil and gas industry together. For the first time, the meeting dedicated to creating the degree programs was attended by students who had the opportunity to ask questions directly to future employers.
Gulzat Kobenova, Chairperson of Higher and Postgraduate Education Committee at MSHE, took part in the council, who carefully listened to all the questions and suggestions of the audience.
- Today we have discussed the training of engineers for the oil and gas industry, - she said in the interview, - and saw that in modern conditions it is not enough to be an expert in one industry. Digitalization, globalization, artificial intelligence, ecology - all these directions must be studied by students in order to be competitive in the future. I am glad that students and industry representatives have met today - this will allow us to achieve our goals and train engineers for the future.
The meeting became a platform for joint work of representatives of the state, business and science, who met to discuss the key challenges and prospects of the industry in the context of global changes, as well as issues on "Innovative solutions for the sustainable development of the oil and gas industry in Kazakhstan: interaction between government, business and science" topic. Special attention was paid to the issues of training specialists, the introduction of advanced technologies and digitalization. The central speech of the council was the report of Director of Geology and Oil-Gas Business Institute Askar Syzdykov, who presented a new concept for evolving the oil and gas industry in the long term:
- Most of all, we are inspired by the path that we have just started, - he said. - We have to look ahead. Where the world's leading universities are looking, Silicon Valley, where visionaries like Elon Musk are looking. Yes, we are currently working to improve the efficiency of mining from the depths of our country, but at the same time we are thinking about using the Moon, Mars and other planets as our resource. If we don't think about it now, then it may be too late.
The new concept includes off-Earth geology as a new horizon of possibilities, training of engineering specialists to create mechanisms that can work in extreme conditions, the development of a new type of robots with a new paradigm of interaction, within which neural networks and humans will be friends and complement each other, as well as the synergy revival of science unity, government and business since ancient times the famous "Wise Men-Warriors-Masters" model.
The event ended with the summing up, the working dialogue and networking. The result was the strengthening the cooperation between government agencies, universities and businesses in creating a sustainable and innovative oil and gas industry. Following the discussion, it was decided to open a new degree program "Technology and automation of drilling wells." The participants also discussed a new development concept and concluded that these are not just trends, but a challenge for engineers who will explore space, introduce artificial intelligence and change the face of the world. And Satbayev University is ready for the given challenge.
