Abai's “Tolyk Adam” as the foundation of youth education: through the prism of the Republican forum in Semey

On May 23, 2025, Satbayev University delegation took part in the republican "Doctrine of Abai’s “Tolyk Adam”: national values and a modern view" forum, held at Shakarim University in Semey. The given event has become a key platform for discussing the role of spiritual and moral education in forming the new generation of Kazakhstanis.

"Tolyk Adam" concept ("An integral person"), formulated by Abai Kunanbayev, is an integral philosophical and ethical teaching about the moral and spiritual perfection of a person based on three key components: mind, heart and will. Only a person who cultivated these qualities in themselves is capable of true development, serving the society and comprehension of higher spiritual values.

In the contemporary context, modernizing the higher education system requires not only the introduction of advanced technologies and academic standards, but also a rethinking of national values. In one of his speeches, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed: "We need to reconsider the concept of Abai’s “Tolyk Adam.” I believe that the concept of "an integral person" should, in fact, become the basis of every aspect of our lives: from government to education, from business to family institutions..."

The forum paid special attention to youth as a key resource and driver of Kazakhstan's growth. Science and Higher Education Ministry focused on the issue of students creating not only deep professional knowledge, but also high moral values, civic responsibility and leadership skills. These efforts are aimed at creating the harmonious balance between innovation and tradition, which contributes to the education of a generation capable of effectively evolving the society and preserving the national identity.

The forum brought together representatives of Kazakhstan's leading universities, government agencies and the scientific community to discuss topical issues related to the spiritual and moral education of young people, the role of science and education, as well as the application of Abai's ideas in modern society.

During the plenary session and working sections, the following issues were discussed:

• The role of Abai studies and M. Auezov's works in understanding the philosophy of Abai;
• Application of “Tolyk Adam” concept in the modern educational system;
• Employment prospects for young professionals in government agencies;
• Involvement of young people in science, culture and social activities.

The event included TED Talks on youth policy, "The future Leader is Youth Today," training seminar as well as cultural and intellectual programs, including a theater production, museum tours, and quizzes.
