Satbayev University has become a platform for launching the OSCE Regional Working Group on Education for Fair Energy Transition

The opening meeting of OSCE-initiated Regional Working Group on Education for Fair and Inclusive Energy Transition (RTEET) was held at Satbayev University. The event was attended by representatives of ministries, universities, energy companies, international organizations and experts from five Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The creation of RTEET marked the launch of a unique platform aimed at building a bridge between education and the rapidly changing demands of the energy sector, especially in renewable energy sphere, as well as promoting the equal opportunities for women and youth during the green transition.

"RTEET is not just a working group, it is a platform for changes. By combining the efforts of universities, ministries and businesses, we are forming a qualified and inclusive workforce that will drive the energy transformation of the region," said Alexey Kobzev, regional consultant at OSNE Needs Assessment.

The working meeting was held with the support of Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia within the framework of OSCE "Promoting the economic empowerment of women in the energy sector of Central Asia" project. Selecting the Satbayev University as a site is not accidental - as the leading technical university in the region, the university is actively developing degree programs in the field of sustainable energy and training of engineering personnel of the future.

"Education should not only be relevant, but ahead of the times. The initiative for which we have gathered today is dedicated to the sustainable development principles, which is an extremely important and relevant topic all over the world. We, as a university and as a part of society, are committed to the given values and are ready to contribute," said Raissa Uskenbayeva, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs.

The participants discussed the results of OSCE regional skills and needs assessment. The study showed an acute shortage of specialized knowledge and the need for flexible training programs adapted to the challenges of renewable energy sources. To bridge this gap, Regional Coordination and Working Groups have been officially launched, which will ensure sustainable interaction between states, educational institutions and technical experts throughout the project.

The RTEET program is designed for the period from March 2025 to May 2026. Among the key steps is the development of the regional training module on renewable energy sources, its pilot implementation in a number of educational institutions and forming the recommendations for their inclusion in the countries’ national educational standards of the region.
