Summary of ACeSYRI Summer School 2025: Artificial Intelligence — Accessible, In-Depth, and Hands-On

From June 9 to 19, 2025, Satbayev University successfully hosted the annual international ACeSYRI Summer School. The event brought together young researchers, educators from diverse fields, freelancers, and business professionals — all united by a shared interest in the practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
The program included real-world case studies from ecology, agriculture, industrial safety, and the uranium sector. Participants explored a range of thematic areas, including the fundamentals of AI, text processing, image generation, and working with audio, music, and video. Ethical considerations in AI were also covered.
Instruction focused on trainable models such as linear and logistic regression and the basics of neural networks. Deep learning techniques for image and text analysis were introduced, alongside hands-on training in big data machine learning using Apache Spark and MongoDB. Special attention was given to developing and training custom natural language processing (NLP) and speech recognition models for the Kazakh language. Unsupervised learning methods, including dimensionality reduction (PCA), clustering, and model evaluation, rounded out the curriculum.
Lectures and workshops were delivered by leading faculty from Satbayev University and invited industry experts. Instructors included Professors V.B. Barakhnin, R.I. Mukhamediev, A.N. Moldagulova, and Associate Professors D.B. Nursseitov, D.E. Aizhuzov, N.K. Mukazhanov, A.M. Kasenkhan, A. Bekarystankyzy, among others.
The school hosted 55 participants from a variety of institutions, including Satbayev University, UniQ Scientific and Educational Center, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Gumarbek Daukeev Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications, Eurasian Technological University, Narxoz University, as well as independent researchers and freelancers.
ACeSYRI Summer School 2025 served as an intensive platform for education and research. Designed as a gradual immersion — from fundamentals to advanced topics — the program featured lectures, scientific presentations, practical assignments, and group discussions. Each day concluded with practical sessions and guided independent study under expert mentorship.
The final day included a wrap-up session where participants shared outcomes and received certificates. The school concluded with an official awards ceremony, acknowledgments, and a group photo.
“The summer school demonstrated the strong interest in AI among both emerging researchers and experienced professionals across different fields. The high level of engagement and eagerness to grow in this area was very encouraging,” noted Professor Ravil Mukhamediev, the event organizer.
ACeSYRI Summer School 2025 reaffirmed that mastering AI requires more than theoretical knowledge. It calls for hands-on experience with real-world challenges, use of modern tools, and collaboration across disciplines. Satbayev University remains committed to advancing such initiatives and invites all those interested to join future educational programs.
