Petroleum engineering

The leading university program aimed at training specialists in the field of energy, oil, gas and other liquid resources from bowels of the Earth, which is in great demand in contemporary Kazakhstan. Petroleum engineers provide technological expertise to extract oil and natural gas from depths of the earth to surface for delivering to refineries.

The program provides for the study of a wide range of subjects from basic sciences (mathematics, physics, geology, chemistry) to principles of engineering analysis, design and management.

You will know oil-gas well drilling technologies, oil reservoir assessments and characteristics, well logging and hydrodynamic research techniques, mechanized oil production technologies and systems, field development, secondary and tertiary oil production methods, as well as computer simulation of most of these processes.

Students have many opportunities to develop skills and knowledge in the field of petroleum engineering outside the classroom, including student organizations and industry internships as well.

For example, students of the department who study under “Oil Engineering” program conduct scientific research at the international level and are members of “International Society of Petroleum Engineers” (SPE) section.

Society of Petroleum Engineers is an international non-profit organization of oil industry technicians. The main goal of society is accumulation and dissemination of knowledge in the field of oil exploration and production, development of related technologies. The company's offices are located in Moscow, Dallas, Houston, London, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur. SPE members are more than 100 thousand people, including more than 28 thousand students.

Students of the department undergo training practice at training ground of Satbayev University and are trained in the best domestic and international companies, including “Schlumberger”, “Chevron”, “KazMunaiGas”, “Rosneft”, “Lukoil”, “Eni”, “CNPC”, “ExxonMobil”, “Total”, “Royal Dutch Shell” and “Maersk Oil.” Some graduates of the department work and gain experience in international locations from UAE to the North Sea. The best students can get additional education on academic mobility program in Western and Eastern Europe institutes.

Graduates acquire "Bachelor of Engineering and Technology" qualification and can work in the field of geology, geophysics, drilling, development and operation of oil-gas fields and expect to receive the highest starting salary among all engineers. In addition to traditional career choices in the oil industry, there are other new professions for graduates of petroleum engineering systems: in the field of pollution treatment, underground waste disposal (including underground carbon dioxide injection to reduce atmospheric greenhouse gases) and hydrology.
