From science to eco-habits: Satbayev University hosted an environmental training for university students

There was held an environmental training session in Almaty today, conducted within the framework of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) programs for 2026, bringing together presentations by experts and practitioners working in the nature conservation, sustainable development and environmental education spheres. Particular attention was paid to the significance of environmental knowledge as a key factor in the sustainable development of society.

Doctor of biological sciences, professor Bakhytzhan Yelikbayev, who has been involved in human interaction with the environment, environmental safety and formation of ecological culture for more than 30 years, addressed the training’s participants with the welcoming speech. In his speech, professor B.K. Yelikbayev emphasized the importance of integrating the environmental habits and scientific knowledge into everyday life and the educational process.

Authoritative experts of Kazakhstan in the field of ecology and industrial ecology, such as Raidin Kassymov, representative of Kazakhstan Chamber of environmental auditors, Botakoz Sadybekova, head of Ecology consulting, ecologist, Hamza Safarov, director of Eco Network, and Merey Orazymbetova, representative of Ecology department in Almaty, held a speech at the eco-training. They shared their expertise in the environmental monitoring, ecosystem formation, and ecological culture spheres.

Satbayev University students, future ecologists Asset Tazabekov and Farhat Zhanseit, as well as associate professor of Chemical processes and industrial ecology department, candidate of technical sciences Saule Nurmakova and PhD Umbetaly Sarsembin, took an active part in discussing the current environmental challenges in Almaty. The training helped students to form a responsible attitude towards the environment and increase the level of environmental awareness.
